Creating a Document from a Content Automation Template

Key terms

Document: Documents are the individual pieces of collateral (e.g. brochures, web ads, signage, business cards, social media tiles, etc) that can be created from a template. These documents can be edited based on the inputs available in that template. Documents may or may not require approval in order to be exported and downloaded, shared, or printed.

Content Automation Template: Content Automation Templates are files that act as a starting point when creating documents. Templates contain pre-formatted elements to help you design your collateral according to your brand's style guidelines. Each template is populated with and controlled by a number of Inputs that allow users to edit the document's content.

Template Library: The Content Automation Template Library is where all the organization's available templates are stored in the platform. 



How to create a document from a template

From within an existing project

  1. In the Projects screen, click on the project in which you would like the template to live. Alternatively, you may want to create a new project for the Content Automation template by clicking on the New project button.

  2. Once you are inside a project, click the + New document button on the top left to open the  Content Automation Template Library.

  3. Find and select the right templates.

  4. Click Create documents to add these documents to the project.

From Your Projects or All Projects page

  1. On the Projects screen, click the  New document button.

  2. Once you are in the Content Automation Template Library, you can search for templates by:
    a)Using the side menu to search by category
    b) Searching keywords in the search field at the top of the page (e.g. "signage", "PDF", "A5").


  3. Check the template description to ensure the template you choose is the right size and format.

  4. Once you have selected one or more templates, they will appear in the panel at the bottom of the screen. From here, you can either preview the template or click Create documents to continue.


  5. Select where to store the new documents. You can either select an existing project or create a new one.
  6. Confirm Create Document.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I can't find the template that I am looking for?

If you can't find a Content Automation template that suits your needs, please reach out to your Administrator as they may be able to tell you what Content Automation templates are available, or you may be able to request for a new template to be built through them. Please note, all templates that you see in Outfit are prescribed by your organization's Brand or Marketing team.
